Charlene Zelma Barricks Ward, age 88, of Seas Branch, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

Born May 19, 1934, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Henry Dennis and Gertie Nola Lewis Barricks.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Fred E. Ward; daughter, Renee Alexander; grandson, Adam Dean Ward; three brothers, Woodrow Barricks, Plummer "Bud" Barricks; and Dennis Barricks; and her companion, Kenny Sammons.

Charlene is survived by four children:  Robert Randall Ward (Loretta) of Morehead, Kentucky, Flora Carter (Greg) of Waxahachie, Texas, Fred Ward (Lisa) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Polly Jeffery (Brent) of Eufaula, Alabama; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

She also leaves a sister-in-law, Coney Barricks of Morehead, nieces, nephews, extended family, including her special kitty cat "Katie," and many friends who will miss her greatly.

Charlene enjoyed living life to the fullest, being happy, and uplifting those around her. She loved her family and cherished all types of gatherings. For years, she enjoyed playing the accordion by herself and with others. Inviting relatives (who played many different instruments) to come sit on the porch and make music was a joy for Charlene. She would prepare good snacks or delicious full-blown meals for everyone. The youngsters always participated in what they called "the hoedown" picking, singing or clogging. Charlene loved decorating for every holiday, but Christmas was probably her favorite.  Every inch of space from her yard to the roof was adorned with all kinds of things Merry and Bright. She enjoyed making others happy and was pleased that many people returned every year to see her work. Although she loved being at home, in later years she enjoyed road trips and seeing different parts of the country.  Every chapter of her earthly journey was full, but different. She was loved by many and will always be remembered with love.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Binion officiating.  Burial will follow in the Barricks Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dewayne Binion, Jr., David Jessie, Hunter Jessie, Buddy Ward, Steve Barricks and Joe Carney. Stevie Helterbrand will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
