Obituary

Charity Mae Brown Utterback, age 94, lately of Salem, Virginia, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013, at Richfield Recovery and Care Center in Salem. Born November 4, 1918, at Galdia, Kentucky, in Magoffin County, she was a daughter of the late Judge Frank and Cecelia Arnett Brown. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Brown. Charity's husband of 63 years, Adrian Windsor Utterback, passed away September 21, 2002. Mrs. Utterback is survived by one daughter, Carole U. (William) Brackman of Salem, Virginia; one son, Adrian W. 'Buddy' Utterback, Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Sondra Lynne Brackman Robinson, Clinton Wade Brackman, Karen Leigh Pruitt, and Adrian W. 'Trey' Utterback, III; and six great grandchildren, Erin and Nathan Brackman, Mackenzie, Christine, and Phillip Pruitt, and Chelsea Utterback. Other survivors include two brothers, Jim Brown of Cynthiana, Kentucky, and Paul Brown of Paintsville, Kentucky, as well as several nieces and nephews. Charity and Duke resided in Nashville, Tennessee, for a number of years where Charity was a devoted wife and mother as well as a master level American Bridge Teacher and a Cosmetology Instructor. Duke was an executive with National Life & Accident Insurance Company. Both were long-standing members of the Belle Meade United Methodist Church in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Thursday until the funeral service hour at 2 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY. Visitation: Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Funeral: Thursday, May 9, 2013, at 2 p.m. Interment: Brown Cemetery
