Chalmer Elwood Utterback, 76, of Rifle Range Road, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. He was born June 26, 1938, in Rowan County, a son of the late William Rufus 'Bill Pug' Utterback and Maggie Marie Jenkins Utterback. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Grace Gregory and Charlotte Donahue; and two children, daughter Donna Utterback Markwell in 1980 and son Thomas 'Tom Utterback in 2011. Chalmer is survived by his wife, Phyllis Fultz Utterback, whom he married March 2, 1958; two sons, William Utterback and wife Hattie and Doug Utterback and wife Valerie, all of Morehead; three grandsons, Mel and wife Krista , Josh and wife Tara, and Garrett Utterback; one granddaughter, Heather Clark and husband Chris; and six great grandchildren, Trevor, Justin, Kiley, Destiny, and McKinsey Utterback, and Ava Clark. Other survivors include one brother, Charles Utterback of Tampa, Florida; two sisters, Pauline Cole of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, and Kay Fannin of Morehead; numerous extended family members and friends. Since July 1963, Chalmer worked for Homer Gregory Lumber Company retiring in February, 2014, after 51 years of service. A master mechanic, Chalmer built two tractors and enjoyed repairing all kinds of small engines. He also enjoyed gardening and talking with everyone. He never met a stranger and made friends wherever he traveled. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Chalmer was a member of Charity Free Will Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Kidd and the Rev. Willis Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Mel, Josh, Garrett, Trevor, and Justin Utterback, Chris Clark, Andy Fannin, Norman Utterback, and Denver Forman. Honorary Pallbearers: J. R. Watson, John Ellington, Junior Baldridge, Vernon Rigsby, Mike Howard, Jeremy Howard, and Phillip Roe. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
