Chalmer Davis, age 89, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at the Life Care Center in Morehead, Kentucky. Born June 30, 1921, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Felix and Nannie Charles Davis. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Christine Combs, and two brothers, Hayward Davis, who was killed in Korea, and Russell Davis. His wife, Dorothy Marie Cooper Davis, passed away May 31, 2006. Mr. Davis is survived by one son, Kenneth Davis and wife Carolyn; one daughter, Shirley Gilliam and husband Mike, all of Clearfield, Kentucky; and two grandchildren, Michael Davis and his wife Melissa and Keri Davis Caesar and husband David. He is also survived by one brother, Bobby Davis and wife Loretta of Morehead, Kentucky, and three sisters, Ethel Caskey, Faye Pelfrey, both of Morehead, Kentucky, and Elsie Lewis, of Virginia. Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1946 as an Amphibian Tractor Driver and Marksman Carbine. He was in the Luzon Ryukyus Campaign and was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with a Bronze Star, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, and World War II Victory Medal. Chalmer was a retired truck driver from Lee Clay Products Company in Clearfield, Kentucky. He was of the Christian Faith. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, October 8, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Phillip Hardin, Dale McKenzie, Amos Maddix, David Caesar, L. J. Caskey, and Roger Carter. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, October 7, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
