Obituary

Cecil Woody Cornett, age 84, of Colfax Road, Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, at his residence.

Born July 26, 1937, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Elza and Goldie Markwell Cornett.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendell Cornett and Bob Cornett, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Cornett.

Woody is survived by his wife of 65 years, Shirley Jamison Cornett, whom he married January 19, 1957; three sons, James "Jim" Cornett and wife Kim of Whitehouse, Tennessee, Ronnie Cornett and wife Claudia of Hillsboro, and Jonathan Cornett and wife Niki of Morehead; two daughters, Janet Kelsey and husband Clint of Morehead and Billie Jo Odaker of Florida; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Other survivors include one brother, Travis Cornett and wife Shirley; one sister, Martha Temple, all of Morehead; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.

Woody retired from Morehead State University after 30 years in the maintenance department and loved farming and raising baby calves.  He was a member of Grange City Christian Church and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He enjoyed watching UK basketball, going to the stockyards, fox hunting, and especially spending time with family.  Woody was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Richard Ingle officiating.  Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Sean Kelsey, Zachary Kelsey, Brady Kelsey, Joe Dan Cornett, Cory Cornett, and Melanie Rogers.

Honorary pallbearers:  Matthew Cornett, Jacob Cornett, Thomas Hedge, Daniel Hedge, Travis Rogers, Michael Brockman, Kenny Cornett, Christopher "Dino" Cornett, Tania Brockman, and Jami Cornett.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
