Obituary

Carol Ann Sherman Shutt, 79, of Hillsboro, KY, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in Danville, Kentucky.

Born June 18, 1946, in Coldwater, Michigan she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Jeanette Smith Sherman.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 32 years, Richard LeRoy Shutt; one son, Jason Miller and wife Lisa of Whiting, Indiana; one grandson, Noah Miller; and one sister, Nancy Becher and husband Edward of New Market, Alabama.

Carol had an interesting life; she was a nurse, a social worker, and a photographer. She started as a diploma nurse and ran the office of a surgeon for a number of years, then worked for St. Joseph County Michigan as a home health nurse. Her adventures as a home health nurse were many and included having her hair nibbled on by the horses that Amish children had ridden to school where she was making a health visit. She was always advocating for her patients which lead her to pursue a master's of social work--where again she worked hard to help her patients receive the services they needed. She also had some adventures as a social worker, like the time she was chased by an adolescent pig that had a large stick in his mouth. We later thought that he just wanted to play fetch. Carol also taught social work at Morehead State University. Her favorite class was Death and Dying, which she taught for several years. One of the assignments required students to visit a cemetery and study the head stones.  This activity resulted in some students visiting more than one cemetery because they found the history revealed on the headstones interesting.  Her last passion was photography, which she pursued for many years. She started with film and was never going to switch to digital cameras; however, being able see the picture she had just taken sold her on digital. She has pictures in many different places like the hospital in Flemingsburg and one in an English pub that was sent there by Maker's Mark. Carol was always concerned for fellow man and a dedicated mother and wife.

She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
