Carl Ray Sampley, 77, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. He was born November 30, 1932, in Butler County, Alabama, son of the late Ishmael and Mary Jewel Chancellor Sampley. Mr. Sampley is survived by his wife, Dr. Marilyn Thomas Sampley, Morehead State University Professor Emeritus; two daughters, Sandra (Richard) Dunbar of Crawford, Texas, and Janice Sherman of Morehead, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Rebecca (David) Ginter of Morehead, Kentucky, Christine Dunbar of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Bryan Dunbar of Crawford, Texas; two great grandchildren, Shelby Roark and Cameron Ginter of Morehead, Kentucky; and one sister, Ramona Sampley Hartsill of Montgomery, Alabama. Mr. Sampley was a retired Exxon employee, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and recipient of the Purple Heart. Private services will be conducted Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Nettleton officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
