Obituary

Dr. Carl Victor Ramey, age 82, of Morehead, husband of Emma Pauline Ramey, Morehead State University professor emeritus, and community leader passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born March 12, 1936, in Waverly, Ohio, he was the son of the late Bud Robinson Ramey and Ella Mae Swim Ramey. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Victor is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emma Pauline Ramey, whom he wed November 22, 1956; three sons, Carl Mitchell and wife Debra Ramey of Shelbyville, Illinois, Glenn Robinson and wife Leigh Ann Ramey, and Paul Gregory and wife Brandi Ramey of Grand Rapids, Michigan; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and two brothers. Dr. Ramey, an educator for nearly 50 years, graduated from Morehead High School in 1954, received the Bachelor of Science Degree from Morehead State University in 1958, Master of Science Degree from Michigan State University in 1963, and Doctorate in Chemistry from Indiana University in 1973. He began his career as a high school teacher in Bethel, Ohio, from 1958-59 and in Gary, Indiana, from 1959-1971. His passion for education was evident at University Breckinridge School and Morehead State University where he held various roles from 1973 until his retirement in 2002. In addition to being an enthusiastic science teacher, Dr. Ramey authored articles for professional journals and wrote and received several research grants and contracts. A member of the Masonic fraternity for nearly 59 years, C. Victor Ramey was Past Master and Treasurer Emeritus, Morehead Lodge No. 654, Free & Accepted Masons; Past District Deputy Grand Master, Grand Lodge of Kentucky; past presiding officer of the Morehead York Rite Masonic Bodies; Past Grand High Priest, Grand Chapter of Kentucky, Royal Arch Masons; 32nd degree, Knight Commander of the Court of Honor, Covington Scottish Rite; a member of El Hasa Shrine Temple in Ashland, and recipient of numerous Masonic honors and awards, including the Royal Order of Scotland and Lifetime Achievement Award from the General Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, International. Throughout his life, Victor served the Lord by playing the piano, organ, and accordion in multiple churches. His kind and generous spirit, his intellectual curiosity, and his lifelong learning, mentoring and teaching will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jeff Fannin and Dr. J. D. Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in Siloam Cemetery. Members of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654 will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Masonic services conducted at 7 p.m. by Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654.
