Obituary

Burl Kenneth Carter, age 68, of Shingle Oak Drive in Elliott County, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015, at his residence. He was born June 24, 1947, in Elliott County, son of the late Johnie and Martha Roe Carter. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Lee Carter and Carl Daymon Carter. Burl is survived by his wife of 46 years, Josephine Burton Carter, whom he married March 28, 1969; three sons, Jason (Tara) Carter, Carson Carter, and Adam (Shirley) Carter, all of Olive Hill; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. Also surviving are two brothers, Garlan Carter of Alliance, Ohio, and Gary Carter of Olive Hill; four sisters, Janice Wagoner of Olive Hill, Glenda Leadingham of Morehead, Agatha Robin Ross and Audrey Joy Goodpaster, both of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews. Burl was a former employee of the Elliott County Road Department and A. O. Smith and attended Porter Creek Church of God. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising cattle, and going to church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Austin Carter and Brother Vaughn Thornsberry officiating. Burial will follow in the John Carter Cemetery in Elliott County. Pallbearers will be Carson Carter, Brandon Carter, Josh Carter, Zachary Carter, Michael Skaggs, and Anthony Leadingham. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
