Buford Morton, age 87, of Kirkhaven Way, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011, at his residence. Born June 20, 1924, at Rosslyn in Powell County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Albert Sidney and Effie Spencer Morton. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, Elzie Morton, Everett Morton, Leonard Morton, Elizabeth Haddix, Lela Spencer, Mabel Morton, and Lucas Morton. Buford is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Lorraine Fortune Morton; three sons, Danny (Debbie) Morton, James A. -Jim- Morton, Stewart (Donna) Morton, and one daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Clark, all of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Daren Morton, Matthew Morton, Brandi Shular, Ashley Mayberry, Whittney Martin, and Zachary Clark; four great grandchildren, Kayleigh Morton, Tyson Morton, Trey Mayberry, and Anna Rose Mayberry. Other survivors include one brother, Morgan Morton of Lexington, Kentucky; one sister, Eva Duff of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Morton was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, a retired carpenter, and former owner and operator of Home Lumber Company. Currently a member of the Gateway Christian Church, Mr. Morton was a member of the Antioch Christian Church from 1934 to 1991, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, Deacon, and Elder. Funeral services will be conducted1:00 p.m. Monday, December 12, 2011, at the Antioch Christian Church with Glenn Emery and Bill Fulton officiating. Burial will follow in the Fortune Cemetery on Spencer Road. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Shirley McCoy, David Myers, Billy Howard Haddix, Johnny Fortune, J. D. Arrasmith, Everett McGlothin, Bernard Ewing, and Howard Fortune. Visitation is 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2011, at the Antioch Christian Church in Mt. Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Antioch Christian Church, 3800 Bedford Road, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353 or Gateway Christian Church, 801 Winchester Road, Mt. Sterling, KY 40353 Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Sunday, December 11, 2011, 5-9 p.m., Antioch Christian Church Funeral: Monday, December 12, 2011, 1 p.m., Antioch Christian Church Interment: Fortune Cemetery
