Brian Kevin Haggard, age 48, of Hunting Hills Drive, Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington. Born March 17, 1965, in Jacksonville, Florida, he is a son of Deloris Jean Simmons Haggard of Charleston, West Virginia, and the late David Ewell Haggard. In addition to his mother, Brian is survived by his wife of 24 years, Cynthia Phillips Haggard, whom he married June 10, 1989; one brother, David Ewell Haggard of Charleston, West Virginia; one sister, Frances Griffin of Mesquite, Texas; mother-in-law, Mary Caldwell Haggan Phillips of Morehead; brother-in-law, Nelson Phillips of Morehead, a very dear cousin, Hannah Helm of Lexington; special friends, Cathy and Carl White of Olive Hill; and his beloved pets, Shadow, Gizzmo, and Calypso. Brian served in the U.S. Air Force from 1984 to 1989 as Sergeant and Canine Instructor and was a former employee of the Bluegrass Army Depot. He enjoyed reading, drawing, bird watching, and everything nautical. Graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014, at Lee Cemetery with Brother Gerald Saunders officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Morehead American Legion Post 126, who will also serve as pallbearers.
