Billy "Joe" Slone, age 56, of Hillsboro, died suddenly Saturday, May 11, 2024, after suffering an apparent heart attack at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
Born February 27, 1968, in Elliott County, he was a son of the late Carl Eugene Slone and Nettie Kathryn Barker Slone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, James Earnest Slone, Ronald Eugene Slone, Patsy Kay Slone, and Rocky Dale Slone.
Joe is survived by his wife of 23 years, Leslie "Pepper" Quesinberry Slone, whom he married September 30, 2000; four children, Nyoka Kaelene Sexton (Elijah) of Morehead, Chelcee Desarae Slone and Dawson Dakotah Slone, both of Hillsboro, and Caleb Joe Slone of Lexington; and two grandchildren, Gabby and Abram Sexton.
Other survivors include five siblings, Danny Ray Slone of Louisa, Robert Franklin Slone (Mary) of Olive Hill, Patricia Sue Hopson of Louisa, Kathie Mae McClelland (Don) of Blaine, and Kevin Gene Slone of Grayson; a special young man in his life that he considered like a son, Dalton Gabriel White of Morehead; special friend, Dr. Charles M. Derrickson of Morehead; several nieces and nephews; extended family, including his church family, and many friends.
Joe loved God and church. He enjoyed farming, being outdoors, gardening, fishing, working on trucks with his boys, taking walks in the fields, sitting around a fire, driving on unknown country roads, and watching the news. Most of all, however, he loved spending time with his family, especially his wife who he nicknamed Angel Face.
He was loved dearly by his Boston Terrier, Pacey Pup, who always had to be right by his side. Joe will forever be remembered and loved.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Charity Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Kidd, Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. and Pastor Elijah Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers: Dawson Slone, Dalton White, Abram Sexton, Jeff Barker, Adam Snipes, and Frankie Slone.
Honorary pallbearers: Brady Wheeler, Nathan Rhodes, David Weaver, Lil David "Tater Tot" Weaver, David Baldridge, and Caleb Slone.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351 and from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Charity Freewill Baptist Church, 7075 KY 519, Morehead, KY 40351.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made payable to Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals to assist with funeral expenses.
