Obituary

Billy Joe Oney, age 78, of Morehead, formerly of Wheatfield, Indiana, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017. Born July 11, 1938, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Virgil and Bonnie Sparks Oney. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Moore, and one brother, Jack Oney. Billy Joe is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Oney; one son, Darrell Oney (Barbara), of Demotte, Indiana; one daughter, Tamara Pollard of Lansing, Illinois; four grandchildren: Dana Pollard, Carli Oney Schultz (Ryan), Brad Oney, and Shannon Pollard; and one great grandson, Eli Schultz. Other survivors include two brothers, Bob Oney of Hessville, Indiana, and Jim Oney (Cheryl) of Hammond, Indiana; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends, including dear friends, Tony and Diane Hitch. Following high school, Billy Joe moved from Rowan County with his family to Hammond, Indiana, where he spent his working years as a union steelworker in Indiana and Illinois. He served his country in the U.S. Army. After retiring, Billy Joe returned to the Morehead area and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and talking on his CB radio. He was also an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, U.K. Wildcats, and NASCAR. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Arnold Ison and Brother Clyde Mays, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Oney Cemetery on Little Perry Road. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
