Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Billy Leroy "Bill" Patrick, of Morehead, KY, who peacefully departed this life on Saturday morning, January 25, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on November 7, 1939, in Isonville, KY, Bill was the cherished son of Charlie and Bessie Patrick, both of whom preceded him in death, along with his two sisters, Juanita (Bob) Miller and Freda (Curt) Tussey.

Bill was also preceded in death by his first wife, Donna Patricia (Ingold) Patrick. Together, Bill and Donna built a loving family and were blessed with three children: Mark (Priscilla) Patrick, Jeffrey (Melisa) Patrick, and Leslie Ann (Bruce) Cecil. He was a devoted grandfather to two granddaughters and three grandsons, and a proud great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren.

Later in life, Bill found love again and married his devoted wife of 29 years, Doris (McCormick) Patrick. Together, they shared many cherished moments, celebrating family gatherings, and the joys brought by grandkids and great grandkids. Doris's children, Teresa (Mike) Blanton and Kevin (Nicole) McCormick, along with her three grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson, became a cherished part of Bill's life.

A man of deep faith, Bill was a Christian and a long-time attendee of the Church of God in Morehead. His love of music brought him joy, and he often sang and played guitar, especially his favorite hymn, "One Day at a Time."  He was a longtime member of Phelps Masonic Lodge #482.

Bill was a talented businessman and a visionary entrepreneur. Over the years, he owned and operated Gulf and Ashland Oil service stations, U-Haul, the Daniel Boone Motel, owned the local sanitation trash removal business, and multiple farms. He was also the Chair of the Morehead Utility Plant Board and served on the City of Morehead City Council.  At the age of thirty-eight, Bill transitioned from the private sector to public service, becoming the Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Morehead.,

For 32 years, Bill tirelessly worked to expand and improve affordable housing in the Morehead area, overseeing projects that added Heritage Place, Triplett View, and Divide Hill apartments, growing the Housing Authority to 222 units. During his tenure, Bill provided thousands of elderly, disabled, and low-income residents with safe, affordable housing—a legacy that continues to impact the community.

After retiring in 2005, Bill embraced 20 years of well-earned retirement, enjoying his time with family, his faith, and his passions.

Billy Leroy Patrick will be remembered as a devoted family man, a faithful servant, a kind neighbor, and a compassionate leader who dedicated his life to being uplifting to others. His memory lives on through his family, his work, and the countless lives he touched.
