Obituary

Billy G. Gilkison, age 83, of West Sun Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born August 27, 1928, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Willie Sanford Gilkison and Bessie Beatrice Flannery Gilkison. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Gilkison and Glenn Poston. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Moore Gilkison, whom he wed June 5, 1970; one brother, Robert -Bob- Gilkison of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Betty Gay Gilkison of Jacksonville, Florida; two nephews, Mark Poston and Randy Poston; and two nieces, Roberta Gilkison and Saundra Nathanson. Billy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a well-known Electrolux salesman in the area for 21 years and a former employee of Red Rose Dairy, Spring Grove Dairy, the Kentucky State Highway Department and the U.S. Forest Service. Always a people person, Billy took time to visit and share stories. He also enjoyed traveling, squirrel and grouse hunting, and hiking. Both he and Ruth were avid walkers. Billy was a member of Johnson First Church of God. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ben Furman and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Mark Poston, Randy Poston, Budd Stidom, David Plank, David Nutter, Tom Sluss, and Jerry Scruggs. Visitation is 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Johnson First Church of God, 590 Cranston Road, Morehead, KY 40351 Visitation: Monday, June 18, 2012, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral: Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
