Betty Allie Phillips Lake, age 85, of North Willow Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born April 5, 1927, in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Aleson and Mary Belle Strangeway Phillips. Her husband of 63 years, Dr. Allen Leonard Lake, preceded her in death on September 10, 2011. Mrs. Lake is survived by five children, Ann Lea (Henry) Greenwell of Taylorsville, KY, Aleson Leonard (Sue) Lake of Salem, OR, Allen Lee (Julie) Lake of Owensboro, KY, Mary Beth (Gary) Dillensnyder of Collegeville, PA, and Alma Lou (Don) Cundiff of Lexington, KY; seven grandchildren, Lucy Ann Greenwell Garrison, Dollie Jane Greenwell, Allyson Lauren Hill Blythe, Katie Dawn Lake, Zachary Lake, Elizabeth Anne Lake, and Logan Allen Lake; and one great grandson, Brayden McKenzie Blythe. Allen and Betty attended Edinboro State Teachers College in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, where they began dating and subsequently married on May 29, 1948, in the Presbyterian Church in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. They moved to Jackson, Kentucky, in 1950, where Allen taught at Lees College for 7 years prior to joining the Morehead State University faculty. Betty earned her undergraduate degree at Edinboro State Teachers College and her master's degree at Morehead State University. She enjoyed a career in education at Rowan County Senior High School, where she taught English and Art for 25 years. Betty and Allen spent retirement years traveling the world, volunteering with various organizations, and enjoying their grandchildren. Founders of Faith Presbyterian Church, both Betty and Allen served as Elders and were dedicated and loyal parishioners. The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 7, 2012, from11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Kathy Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Jeff, Daniel, and Adam Foster, Fred Busroe, Cecil Watkins, and Keith McCormick.
