Betty Jean Parks Dyer, age 84, of Morehead, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at UK–St. Claire HealthCare after a brief illness.
Born March 9, 1942, in Owingsville, she was a daughter of the late Gobel Parks and Cordia Crockett Parks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 29 years, Bobby Earl Dyer, whom she married June 19, 1996, and who passed away October 3, 2025; one son, Tony Hardin on May 17, 1981; one granddaughter, Heather Ballard on August 10, 2024; and four siblings, Lucille Reffitt, Hazel Parks, Irene Wills, and Gobel Parks, Jr.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Wilma West and husband Gary of Stanton, Kentucky; one sister, Eunice Johnson of Lexington, Kentucky; two stepsons, Robert Dyer and wife Cindy of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Kenneth Dyer and wife Sadie of Flower Mound, Texas; one stepdaughter, Erica Macey and husband John of Temple, Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as extended family, including her church family and many good friends.
She was a homemaker and a dedicated environmental services employee for St. Claire HealthCare for 25 years. A member of Sharkey Baptist Church for more than 25 years, Betty was a tireless worker. She loved everything about her church, and she and Bob were nearly always the first to arrive and the last to leave. She especially enjoyed being involved in church activities and spending time with her grand pup, Ziggy, who could always make her laugh and smile. Betty will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2026, at Sharkey Baptist Church with Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. and Pastor Elijah Sexton officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Pallbearers: Robert Dyer, Kenny Dyer, Tim Parks, Matthew Strain, Gary West, and Abram Sexton.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sharkey Baptist Church, 2555 Sharkey Road, Morehead, KY 40351.
