Obituary

Betty R. Owens Epperhart, age 89, of Flemingsburg Road, Morehead, went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 13, 2017, at her residence. She was born November 12, 1927, in Olive Hill, and was the only daughter of the late Frank Harry Owens and Golda Mae Whitt Owens Edison. Her husband of 65 years, Clarence Edward 'Bill' Epperhart, whom she married October 12, 1946, passed away on October 29, 2012. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Wayne Epperhart, on December 29, 1948, and a grandson, Christopher Dale Epperhart, on November 23, 2003. Betty is survived by five daughters, Beverly Williams and husband Duke, Linda Epperhart, and Deborah Netherly, all of Morehead, Janice Houston of Cleveland, Tennessee, and Kimberly Hunt and husband Doug of Ashland; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Growing up in Olive Hill, Betty graduated from Olive Hill High School in 1945 where she enjoyed cheerleading and playing the trumpet in her father's high school band. She also enjoyed teaching herself to play the piano and guitar. After high school, she traveled on the train to attend Morehead State University for one year while studying music. After marrying and moving to Morehead where she and Bill built their home, she was a homemaker and bookkeeper for his trucking business. She enjoyed raising their children, sewing, crocheting and quilting, was an avid reader, and loved singing. Betty was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Christian Church and sang in the church for many years. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at the Mt. Pisgah Christian Church with the Rev. Jim DeAtley and the Rev. Jared DeAtley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Pallbearers: Preston Netherly, Tyler Netherly, Kody Netherly, Austin Netherly, Jr. Johnson, Ethan Johnson, Joshua Burke, Jonathan Burke, Wesley Hancock, Zachary Hancock, and Ben Hancock. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, January 16, 2017, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
