Obituary

Betty Jo Asher Adams, age 80, of Litton Road, Morehead, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at her residence. Born October 22, 1934, in Letcher County, she was a daughter of the late Kermit and Ruby Blair Asher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Asher; three sisters, Ruth Asher, Debbie Asher, and Helen Caudill; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Ison, Wayne Mullis, and Watson Caudill. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Luther Adams, whom she married December 27, 1958; one son, Michael Adams and wife Patsy of Morehead; two grandchildren, Zach Adams and wife Brittany, and Shelby Adams, all of Morehead; and one great granddaughter, Elliana Adams. Also surviving are six sisters, Ann (Don) Litton of Morehead, Christine (Bob) Anderson, Sharon (David) Ison, and Barbara Ison, all of North Vernon, Indiana, Alice (Doug) Dixon of Lexington, and Brenda Asher of Letcher; one brother, Ted (Phyllis) Asher of Letcher; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Adams attended Morehead State University and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She was a teacher for 34 years at New Lebanon Elementary School in New Lebanon, Ohio. Betty always had a strong sense of family and was a nurturer and encourager to her sisters and brothers. She continued to display these characteristics throughout her teaching career, her work as a community volunteer, and as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending time with her loving grandchildren and great granddaughter. Betty was an avid reader, a lifelong poet, a founding member and first president of Delta Theta Tau in New Lebanon, Ohio, a member of the Morehead Garden Club, and a member of Morehead First Church of God. Betty will be greatly missed by the family and lovingly remembered. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Jason Dixon, Wade Ison, Rick Litton, Brett Litton, Jerry Bell, and Bob Banks. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351.
