Obituary

Bettie -Jean- Stewart Harmon, age 76, of Fraley Drive, Morehead, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011, at her home. Born August 3, 1935, in Bath County, Kentucky, Jean was the daughter of Charlie Allen and Irene Ishmael Stewart. She graduated from Bethel High School, where she was class president. On January 4, 1956, Jean married Verlin Harmon of Fleming County, Kentucky, and they welcomed a beautiful daughter, Lisa Ann Harmon, into their lives on March 9, 1960. The family resided in Flemingsburg and later in Hillsboro, Kentucky. Jean and Verlin cleaned the Peoples Bank in Flemingsburg for many years. On March 20, 1991, they welcomed a grandson into their lives, Travis James Ruth, son of Lisa and Jimmy Ruth. Like Lisa, Travis was the love of their lives. On April 30, 2002, Lisa died from a terrible illness, and on April 30, 2005, Verlin lost his life. Jean and Travis continued to live in Morehead, where Jean cared for and nurtured Travis into the fine young man he is today. In addition her parents, her beloved husband, Verlin, and her precious daughter, Lisa and Jimmy Ruth, Jean was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy -Dot- Lester; brothers-in-law, Charles Lester and Don Johnson; and mother- and father-in-law, Mary and Aubrey Harmon. She is survived by her loving grandson, Travis James Ruth of Morehead, and sisters, Juanita Johnson Craig of Owingsville and Elizabeth -EB- (Ted) Doyle of Winchester. Other survivors include several brothers- and sisters-in-law, Agatha Brannon, Janice Cartmill (Shirley), Blackie Harmon (Judy), Ronnie Harmon (Judy), Anthony Harmon, Sandra Purvis, Pamela Palmer (Chuckie) and George Harmon (Glenda); several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends. Jean was a member of the Morehead First Church of the Nazarene. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Farmer and Rev. Ted Doyle officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery, Hillsboro, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Barry Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Chuck Lester, Dale Doyle, Jerry Ravenscraft, Richard White, Vernon Walker, and William Humphries. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead.
