Bethel Franklin Ison, 82, of Dry Ridge, formerly of Sandy Hook and Flemingsburg, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at his home. Born January 15, 1937, in Sandy Hook, he was a son of the late Bennie and Edna Roberts Ison. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Dwight Ison; and siblings, Ray Ison and Mary Ann Hamilton. Bethel is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Valerie Kay Ison, whom he wed September 10, 1960; one daughter, Vickie Keeton and husband Ken of Dry Ridge; one son, Paul Ison and wife Tammy of Walton; two grandchildren, Lorie and Jarrod; and two great grandchildren, Benjamin and Matthew. Other survivors include siblings Dot Fugate of Flatwoods, Ernie Ison of West Liberty, Elsie Salyers of Salyersville, Ina Whitt of Florence and David Ison of Sandy Hook, as well as many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Bethel was a retired farmer, logger, and business owner. For many years, he and Valerie owned and operated the Towne House Inn and Motel in Flemingsburg. A hard worker and provider all his life, Bethel found his true calling in retirement, coming to be known all through town as "The Candyman" for the home-made bags of chocolate and peanut butter fudge he passed out to everyone he'd meet. He loved all people and as a devout Christian witnessed daily. Through his generosity and many other good deeds, Bethel wanted to help each person he met to know the Lord as he did. He loved his Jesus, attending church and living a Christian life by example. Bethel was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ken Keeton officiating. Burial will follow in the Ison Family Cemetery in Sandy Hook. Pallbearers: Jarrod Ison, Mandi Ison, Jeremy Wilson, Michael Ison, Daniel Greene, Zach Ison, and Jacob Greene. All of Bethel's beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
