Barbara Ann Patrick King, age 90, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at UK Medical Center in Lexington.

Born September 3, 1936, in Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Russell Patrick and Beuna Christine Stephens Patrick.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband and love of her life for 53 years, Earl F. King, whom she married on November 24, 1955, and who passed away on July 31, 2009; a daughter, Tonia Denise King; her Godmother, Merle Barker; two brothers, Frank Patrick and Carlos Patrick; a sister, Jolena Patrick; a son-in-law, Mitchell Miller; a brother-in-law, Steven Burchett; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Patrick.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Cheryl King Miller; a grandson, Mitchell Scott Fielden Miller; and a great-granddaughter, Maya Ann Miller, all of Owingsville; a sister, Nancy Burchett of Grayson; a sister-in-law, Nancy Patrick of Olive Hill; and other extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

Barbara retired from the Carter County Board of Education after dedicating 34 years to teaching at Upper Tygart. She was deeply committed to education and believed every child deserved the opportunity to learn and succeed. Her dedication reflected the philosophy of “No Child Left Behind,” and she took great pride in helping her students build a foundation for their futures.

An independent woman with many interests, Barbara enjoyed reading, thrifting, camping, and traveling to discover new places. She especially loved Florida and treasured the opportunity to explore and experience new surroundings.

Barbara was a member of Bowen Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and supported several missionaries. Music was also an important part of her life. Alongside her husband, she was a member of the Soul Searchers gospel group, where she shared her musical talents by playing the piano and singing alto. Through her faith, music, dedication to teaching, and love for others, Barbara touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy that will continue for generations to come.

Barbara's greatest devotion was to her family. As a mother, she never failed to put her daughters first, always making certain they felt loved, valued, safe, and secure. She was honest, loyal, and an excellent example of a godly mother.

The family extends a special thank you to Barbara's extraordinary caregivers, Brenda Trent, Valerie Bitner, and Joyce Boggs, for their compassionate care, kindness, and dedication.

Barbara will be deeply missed by her family, former students, church family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her faith, kindness, and dedication to others will remain a lasting part of the lives she touched.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Lowell Rice officiating. Burial will follow in Bowen Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chris Patrick, Christopher Patrick, Bobby Patrick, Scott Burchett, Scott Miller, and Shannon Harr. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Patrick and Robert Cartmill.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
