Barbara Sue Brown Fannin, 68, of Knapp Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born October 23, 1942, in Wrigley, Kentucky, she was the only child of the late Herman Clarence and Irene Wells Brown. Barb is survived by her husband of 49 years, Larry Hugh Fannin; their three children, Lara, Ty and his wife Melissa, and Blake Fannin, all of Morehead; five grandchildren, Abbey, Chelsea, and Amy Allen and Peyton and Presley Fannin; and feline friend, Lucas. Barbara graduated from Breckinridge Training School in 1960 and attended Morehead State University for two years prior to her marriage to Larry on September 7, 1962. A people person, Barb enjoyed working at Layne-s Department Store, as a legal clerk for an attorney and in the office of Ottist Elam, County Clerk. Later she owned and operated several businesses including one of the first tanning beds in Morehead and the Pink Flamingo. Barb was also active in the family owned businesses. Barb participated in community organizations and was one of the founders of Breckinridge School Society, an organization of Breck alumni started in 1993 that has funded an endowment of more than $600,000 to support MSU scholarships for descendants of Breck alumni. She organized and chaired the first all-school reunion in 1993 and later was the first person to receive the Breck Society-s George T. Young Award for outstanding service. As a member of the Morehead First Christian Church, she had served on several committees. Barbara loved entertaining family and friends in her home and on the houseboat, traveling, vacationing at St. Simons Island, and securing the very latest technological gadgets. She was especially well known for her fashion and interior design. A beloved friend to many, Barbara adored her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her great joy. She will be lovingly remembered by all. A Celebration of Life will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Morehead First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with the Reverend Molly Smothers officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers: Bill Shely, Danny Purdy, Doug Hopson, Jack Carter, Tom Jones, Judge John Cox, Jerry Beatty, and Denton Blair. Honorary Pallbearers: Employees of Larry Fannin Chevrolet-Buick-GMC in Morehead and Larry Fannin Family Ford in Flemingsburg, Lois Anne Holley, Becky Carter, Kathy Williams, Carole Reeder, Isabelle Howard, Cody Greene, and Evans Lane. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Living Memorial Fund, First Christian Church, 227 East Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351 Visitation: Saturday, September 10, 2011, 4 p.m., Northcutt & Son Funeral: Sunday, September 11, 2011, 3 p.m., First Christian Church Interment: Lee Cemetery
