Obituary

Arnold Boone Staton, age 95, of Staton Road, Morehead, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2016, at the Life Care Center in Morehead. Born July 9, 1920, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Joseph Harrison and Martha Alice Cottle Staton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mayme Kathleen Pettit Staton on August 3, 1997; four brothers, Ray, Paul, Denton, and Alvin Staton; and three sisters, Vernie Hall, Lucy McKinney, and Lorene Donahue. He is survived by two sons, Joe Staton and wife Connie of Inez and Phillip Staton of Morehead; a daughter, Sharon Wright and husband Lonzie of Morehead; four grandchildren, Chris Wright, Doug Wright, Dusty Staton, and Timmy Staton; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Wright, Dustin Wright, and Bradley Wright. Also surviving is a special niece, Helen Ellington, and two special nephews, Gerald McKinney and John Donahue; and extended family members and friends. Arnold was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired farmer and logger. He was of the Church of God faith and his greatest joy came from attending church services. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Robert Kidd officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery with full military honors by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers will be Dusty Staton, Chris Wright, Doug Wright, Dustin Wright, Austin Wright, and Bradley Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Ellington, Gerald McKinney, Robert Fulkrod, John Donahue, Timmy Fultz, and Denver Forman. Visitation is from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Visitation: Saturday, January 9, 2016, 12 noon to 2 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 2 p.m. Interment: Mt. Hope Cemetery
