Anthony Wayne
Tony Pettit
Apr 29, 1959 — Mar 18, 2016
Anthony Wayne 'Tony' Pettit of Colfax, Fleming County, born April 29, 1959, passed away at Fleming County Hospital after a long illness, on the morning of March 18, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Edmund 'Bob' Pettit in 2006, and his mother, Josephine Naomi (Shelley) Pettit in 2014. Tony is survived by two sisters, Tresia Swain (Adrian) of Morehead and Melinda Rollins (Jim) of Mt Sterling; one brother, Randall Pettit of Mt Carmel; one sister-in-law, Regina Pettit of Morehead; five nephews, Gabriel Swain of Tampa, Florida, Luke Swain (Allison) of Lexington, Travis Pettit (Samantha) of Morehead, Evan Rollins (Ashley) of Mt Sterling, and Jared Rollins of Lexington; one niece, Lacy Pettit of Lexington; two great-nieces, Lula Swain of Lexington, and Sophia Pettit of Morehead; and a three-week old great-nephew, Hunter Pettit of Morehead. Tony grew up in the countryside, near Grange City, and attended grade school in Hillsboro. He graduated from Fleming County High School in 1977 and worked for the next 20 years for the US Shoe/Nine West Group until the closure of its Flemingsburg factory in 1997. He enjoyed the outdoors and the woods, he loved to fish, and treasured his family and friends. Along with his brother Randall, he provided valuable companionship to their widowed mother for eight years following the death of their father. Tony was a quiet, kind, and gentle man with a passive and accepting spirit, who asked very little from those around him. Despite the sickness that plagued him later in life, he frequently reached out to help friends and neighbors while he was able, sometimes at a cost to his own health. He was dearly loved by those who knew him as a close friend, all of whom will miss him for his warm-hearted, cheerful, and generous spirit. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Hutton Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Engle officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gabriel Swain, Luke Swain, Travis Pettit, Lacy Pettit, Sonia Shelley McCarty, Ricky 'Pacman' Crawford, Nicholas Shelley, and Paul Taylor. Visitation is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
