Anthony Duke Flora, age 84, of Porter Cemetery Road, Flemingsburg, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 13, 1942, in Poplar Plains, Kentucky, he was the son of the late James Estell Flora and Ethel Minish Weaver Flora. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Tony Flora; two grandsons, Jerrod Kabler and Matthew Kerns; and one sister, Gwendolyn Bussell.
Duke is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Patricia Ann “Patty” Hunter Flora, whom he married January 2, 1962; two sons, Jeffrey Hunter Flora (Stephanie) of Whittier, California, and James Minish Flora of Flemingsburg; two daughters, Angela Kay Thacker (Kevin) of Wallingford, and Bradest Peck (Daniel) of Flemingsburg; seven grandchildren, Morgan Flora, Hazel Bode (Matthew), Kristen Day (Jason), Brittany Wilson (Dustin), Jake Kabler (Stephanie), Sarah Meyer (Michael), and James Daniel Peck; 11 great grandchildren, Caleb Wilson, Will Wilson, Ashlee Bode, Shaelyn Wilson, Griffin Day, Duke Bode, Gabriella Bode, Iris Meyer, Ivy Meyer, Josie Kabler, and Brandi Marsh; and one great-great granddaughter, Lainey Marsh.
He is also survived by one sister, Faye Logan of Flemingsburg; four nephews, Patrick Bussell, Brendon Bussell, Ethan Bussell, and Chris Carpenter Blythe; along with other extended family and many friends.
Duke was a lifelong, proud farmer who took great pride in his farm and the life he built there. He raised Black Angus cattle for many years, and dairy farmed for 32 years. In 2006, he was honored as Outstanding Ag Leader of the Year. A very hard worker, Duke was also a former employee of Fleming-Mason RECC, where he worked for 10 years as a lineman.
He was a man of Christian faith and a loyal supporter of Hillsboro Christian Church. Duke was also a member of Flemingsburg Masonic Lodge No. 112 and Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington.
Duke had a special love for collecting and purchasing replica tractors, which he enjoyed giving to his grandchildren. He also loved riding his Harley-Davidson and enjoyed fishing whenever time permitted. He cherished his family and the simple joys of life, and the memories he created with those he loved will be treasured for generations to come.
Duke will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His hardworking spirit, generous heart, love of family, and devotion to the land he cherished will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at Hutton Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Grimes and Brother Gerald Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Flora, James Flora, Patrick Bussell, Brenden Bussell, Jimmy Jones, and Tim Greer.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Morgan Flora, Jake Kabler, James “JD” Peck, Kevin Thacker, and Matthew Bode.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41041.
