Obituary

Ann LaVaughn Sandifer Mayhew, age 70, of Skaggs Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born May 19, 1942, in Mason County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Spencer Sandifer and Lucille Hitt Sandifer. Ann is survived by her husband, Dr. Harry C. Mayhew, whom she wed September 5, 1964; one daughter, Cara A. Mayhew Cash of Valparaiso, Indiana, two grandchildren, Taylor Lauran Cash and Turner Anthony Cash, also of Valparaiso; one sister, Sharon Sandifer Bethea of Bryan, Texas; dear aunts, uncles, cousins, and other devoted family members. Ann graduated from Deming High School in Robertson County where, in addition to being an excellent student, she was also active in 4-H, sang Saturday mornings on a radio station in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was the recipient of several pageant crowns. She received her bachelor's, master's, and Rank I from Morehead State University. During her senior year of college, Ann was a foreign exchange student in Israel for six months through the International 4-H Youth Exchange. She taught at Muncie (Indiana) Central High School for several years before she and Harry returned to Morehead, where he became a faculty member at Morehead State University. Ann became very involved in University life and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) activities. Always a devoted wife and mother, Ann doted on her family, especially her grandchildren. Granna will be lovingly remembered by her own grandchildren as well as the many other children she adopted along the way. Her 'Thursday packages' will live long. A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with the Rev. Molly Smothers officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Robert Lynn Busby, Taylor Cash, Turner Cash, Lee Chaney, Rex Chaney, Mark Etherton, and Mickey Reffitt. Honorary Pallbearers: Deacons and Elders of the Church. Visitation is from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, November 2, 2012, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Living Memorial Fund, 227 E. Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351 Visitation: Friday, November 2, 2012, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Funeral: Saturday, November 3, 2012, at 11 a.m. Interment: Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
