Allene Thompson "Mamaw Great" Hughes, age 94, of Olive Hill, formerly of Fairborn, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Life Care Center in Morehead.

Born January 5, 1930, in Dante, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Emma Carey Thompson, and was raised by her late uncle and aunt, Arthur and Mary Carey Thompson. Her husband of 63 years, Joe Hughes, whom she married June 3, 1950, preceded her in death on October 27, 2013.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Roger Back; one brother, Jay Thompson; three sisters, Kathleen Thompson, Naomi Thompson, and Francis Thompson; one grandson, Jason Back; and one great grandson, Torre Wooten, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Robert Christian.

Mamaw Great is survived by one son, Danny J. Hughes of Kansas; three daughters, Cheryl Ann (late Bruce) Lybrook of Kettering, Ohio, Patricia Kay "PK" (Ervin) Kegley of Olive Hill, and Vicki Lynn (Mark) Decker of Enon, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Other survivors include one sister, Dorcus Marie Christian; one nephew, Michael Todd Christian, both of Abingdon, Virginia; a special friend, Dana Bowling; and other extended family members.

She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. Mamaw Great enjoyed cooking, caring and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed and remembered with love.

At the request of the family, the visitation and service times have been changed to the following hours on Sunday morning:

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.to 10:30 a.m. Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.  A memorial service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Willie Sturgill officiating.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2025, at Byron Cemetery and Mausoleum, 3256 Trebein Road, Fairborn, OH 45324 with Brother Kenny Garrett officiating.
