Obituary

Mrs. Alice Faye DeBorde Johnston, 95, of Water Avenue, Morehead, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at the home of her daughter. Born January 23, 1923, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late William Augustine and Olivia Mae Curtis DeBorde. On May 11, 1940, Alice was united to her beloved husband of 52 years, Pattie Milton Johnston, who preceded her in death on September 11, 1992. She was also preceded by a son, Charles Edward Johnston, who passed away on February 7, 2012; five brothers, John Morgan DeBorde, Robert Ray DeBorde, Baby Boy DeBorde, Columbus Edward DeBorde and William Joseph DeBorde; and four sisters, Virginia Carol DeBorde, Phyllis Jean DeBorde, Ida Louise DeBorde Futrell Curol and Mary Esther DeBorde Mutters. Mrs. Johnston is survived by three daughters, Mary Kaye Trent of Dayton, Ohio, Lynda Carol (Clyde) Mays, Saundra Gayle (Walden) Stone, both of Morehead; one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Barker Johnston of Olive Hill; 13 grandchildren, Rick (Debbie) Johnston of Woodstock, Georgia, Dwayne (Julie) Johnston of Wichita, Kansas, Nelson Trent, Jr, Anthony Dale Trent both of Dayton, Ohio, Jeffrey Scott Mays (Beth McBroom) of Winchester, and Clyde Douglas (Latisha) Mays, William Patrick (Nicole) Mays, Derek Trevor Stone, Wesley Thomas Stone, Jessica Leigh Stone, all of Morehead, Jeannie (Albert) Delong of Ravenswood, West Virginia, Tanya Hill of Lexington, North Carolina, and DeAnna Lynn (John) Collins of West Liberty; and 22 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Maxine DeBorde Stump of Midland, Ohio; one brother, Donald Fredrick (Jana) DeBorde of Greenville, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnston was a member of the Apostolic Tabernacle of Jesus Christ. Affectionately known as "Nana" to her family and friends, she always had a smile and warm words for anyone she met. Alice was a homemaker and had worked at Martin's Department Store, Parsons and Deanne's Jewelry Store. Mrs. Johnston always had a green thumb when it came to raising plants and especially enjoyed her African violets and her many colorful roses. She also raised a vegetable garden and was known for having beautiful tomatoes. She always canned and preserved the many fruits of her garden. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family that she treasured. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and cherished friend, who will be sadly missed by all. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m., October 7, 2018, with Pastor Arnold Ison officiating. Burial will be beside her beloved husband in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her loving grandsons: Dwayne Johnston, Rick Johnston, Doug Mays, Pat Mays, Jeff Mays, Derek Stone and Wesley Stone.
