Obituary

Alexis Nicole Polley, age 8, of Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at her residence. Alexis was born May 24, 2004, in Newport, Rhode Island, the daughter of Brian Polley of Clearfield, Kentucky, and Emily Whitman Gulley and husband Glenn of Flemingsburg, Kentucky. In addition to her parents, other survivors include three sisters, MacKenzie Faith Polley and Jameson Hope Polley of Greenup, Kentucky, and Trinity Rogers of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and two brothers, Gage Gulley of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, and Christian Rogers of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Alexis is also survived by paternal grandparents, Vonnie Polley of Maysville, Kentucky and Darrell and Diane Polley of Tollesboro, Kentucky; paternal great grandmother, Frances Polley of Tollesboro, Kentucky; maternal grandparents, Bob and Melody Whitman of Drums, Pennsylvania, and Randall and Glenda Gulley of Maysville, Kentucky; maternal great grandmother, Joyce LeForge of Fostoria, Ohio.; and a plethora of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Alexis loved to sing, play with baby dolls, and watch her favorite show, 'How I Met Your Mother.' 'Alexis had one of the brightest personalities of any child on earth,' her teachers at Clearfield Elementary School, where Alexis had just completed third grade, said. She was imaginative in that she dreamed big, one day hoping to be the next Taylor Swift. She was creative in that she always thought outside of the box, and had an exceptional knack for being empathetic and seeing other people's point of view. Alexis loved learning; she was inquisitive with her education and constantly asking questions beginning with, 'Um, excuse me, but why does-?' and often would say to her teachers, 'But are you sure-?' On her road to stardom, Alexis was so excited this past school year to be able to participate in her first year of choir, often singing solos in school performances or just humming a new tune in the school office that she had composed. Her contagious smile and big brown eyes radiated light. People who knew Alexis were blessed to have had her in their lives, our world is better because she was here, and even though her time on earth was momentary, her memories will last a lifetime.
