Obituary for Burl Williams

Burl Williams, age 72, of Eagle Drive, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born September 5, 1946, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Will Emory Williams and Mildred Francis Christian Williams. In addition to his parents, Burl was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Faye Williams Sergent, and a niece, Pam Williams Fultz.

Burl is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Sandra “Sandi” Forman Williams, whom he wed November 2, 1968; one daughter, Danah Williams Easton and husband Brian of Frankfort; one son, Jeffrey Burl “Jeff” Williams and wife Stephanie of Vacaville, California; three grandsons, Andrew William “Drew” Easton, Gabriel McKinley “Gabe” Easton, and Will Evan Williams; one granddaughter, Ellen Florence Williams; and his ever-faithful Yorkie, Maggie Sue.

Other survivors include one brother, Ray Williams of Morehead; three nephews, Ricky Joe Williams and wife Lucy and Anthony Ray Williams and wife Pepper, all of Morehead, and Darrell Sergent and wife Terri of Indiana; several great nieces and nephews, as well as extended family and friends.

Burl and Sandi owned and operated Sandman Sleep Center and Electric Beach Tanning for more than thirty years, from 1984 to 2016. Prior to founding his own businesses, Burl had been an employee of Rainbo Baking Company and Sandman Waterbeds. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed playing golf, water sports, drag racing and watching UK and MSU basketball and football. Burl always had a fondness for cars—new or old—and loved attending vintage car shows and mastering the advanced technology in today’s automobiles. Following retirement, he enjoyed another hobby—driving cars for Tim Short.

Burl also treasured spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and participating in their activities. He was a member of the First Church of God and Eagle Trace Golf Course Men’s League and a former member of the Morehead Optimist Club.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jeremy Halstead officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Brian, Drew and Gabe Easton, Ricky Joe and Anthony Williams, Ronnie Brooks, Lowell Manning, and Marvin Moore.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351.
