Virginia Lois Layne Carpenter, age 81, of Clearfield, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2019, at her home.
Born September 13, 1938, in Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Estill Layne and Sadie Pearl Hurley Layne. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Carpenter; son, Steve Carpenter; five brothers; and five sisters.
She is survived by her children, Terre Fielding, Barbara Ginter (Jesse), and Brenda Buckler (Jeff), all of Clearfield; nine grandchildren, Christy Fielding, Shona Fielding, Ryan Fielding, Kayla Carpenter, Shay Carpenter, Chase Carpenter, Brooklyn Carpenter, Dakota Carpenter, and Joy Buckler; and eight great grandchildren.
Other survivors include sisters, Loranne Carpenter, Barbara Bair, and Kathy Charles, all of Carter County; brothers, Richard Layne and Tony Layne, both of Carter County and Frank Layne of Rowan County; nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Virginia attended Olive Hill High School. In Olive Hill, she worked as a waitress at James Drive In and Burton’s Drive In and was an employee at Cowden’s Sewing Factory. She also worked for many years as a caregiver in Morehead. She retired in 2001.
Her hobbies included word search puzzles, reading her Bible and listening to Bluegrass gospel music. She enjoyed spending time with family and taking care of people. Virginia was a member of Morehead ChristWay Church of God.
Virginia wanted to thank all the doctors, nurses and aides that helped take care of her during the last couple years of her life.
A celebration of life will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with Bishop Greg Guy officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers: Ryan Fielding, Damien Blevins, Jeff Buckler, Jesse Ginter, Alan Layne.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 26, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351
