Mary Lucy Erwin Adkins, age 66, of East Scott Court, Clearfield, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at her home.
Born January 20, 1953, in Grayson, she was the daughter of the late Wayne Houston Erwin and Thelma Lewis Erwin.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie Adkins, whom she married August 12, 1971; two sons, Phillip Adkins and wife Britney of Morehead and David Adkins and wife Lori of Clearfield; four grandchildren, Aaron Adkins, Dustin Adkins, Ellie Adkins, and Abel Adkins.
Other survivors include a half-brother, Harvey Buckland of South Point, Ohio; two half-sisters, Ella Collins and Francis Baxter of Greenfield, Indiana; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mary graduated from Rowan County High School, Class of ’72, and received an Associate Degree in Secretarial Studies from Morehead State University. While attending college, Mary worked part time for Dr. Charles Derrickson, Chair of the Agriculture Department, and later worked full time for Dr. John Vansant in Vocational Education. She transferred to the Kentucky Department of Education as an Administrative Assistant for Karen Hamilton, Division Director, until Mary’s retirement in 2003.
Following her retirement, Mary volunteered at the St. Claire Medical Center Gift Shop for approximately 15 years and the Hope Pregnancy Care Center for several years, where she transitioned to a part-time employee. From the 1980s, at different times, Mary spent many hours at Camp Caleb Christian Youth Camp near Paintsville, where she managed the kitchen and volunteers and helped in other areas on an as-needed basis.
Mary was an avid reader, loved to sew, needlepoint and cross stitch. Most of all, she enjoyed being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished time spent with family, especially the grandchildren.
Mary was a founding member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, on McBrayer Road in Clearfield, when the church was established in October 2000. She was a devout Christian, read her Bible daily, and lived by Christian principles. Her love for God and family, as well as service to others, will always be treasured by those who knew her.
