Lois Howell Obituary

Lois Taylor Howell, age 79, of Whitaker Street, Morehead, widow of Dr. Jerry F. Howell, Jr., passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.

Born April 12, 1940, in McCreary County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Bennie B. and Thelma L. Ball Taylor.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.  Jerry, her husband of 46 years, passed away on October 20, 2009.

Lois is survived by one sister, Beverly Yancey of Morehead; two brothers, Ricky A. Taylor of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, and William E. Taylor of Orlando, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Lois and Jerry moved to Morehead in 1972.  Dr. Howell had accepted a position as director of the environmental education center at Morehead State University and Lois began her career path as a teacher at University Breckinridge School.  She later taught in the Rowan County school system, was a Morehead State University Foundation employee, and retired from MSU as a supervisor of student teachers.  Both Jerry and Lois retired from Morehead State University and enjoyed many fun-filled years.

Through the years, Lois was involved in numerous university, community, and charitable organizations.  In addition to professional organizations, she was a member of the Morehead State University Woman’s Club, enjoyed a bowling league and participated in several investment clubs.  Following retirement, she loved Bunko, travel and cruises, crossword puzzles, reading, games on her I-Pad, the casino and playing the horses.  She continued to “live life to the fullest.”

A celebration of life will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, November 25, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Daniel Moses and the Rev. Drew McNeill officiating.   Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery.
