John Michael Reed

John Michael Reed, age 67, of Richards Road, Morehead, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2019, at his home.

Born November 11, 1951, in Williamson, West Virginia, he was the son of the late John B Reed and Dorothy Mounts Reed.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Daniel Reed, and two sisters, Ina Stallard and Barbara Ramey.

John is survived by his wife, Jeanne Faye Reynolds Reed; one son, John Reed and wife Angie of Pikeville; one daughter, Erin Reed and fiancé Wayne Logan of Morehead; three grandchildren, Savannah Napier and husband Justin, Jasmine Reed, and Molly Reed; and his faithful canine companion, Buddy Boy Reed.

He is also survived by two sisters, Edith Roe of Lexington and Ella Faye Thurston of Louisville; nieces and nephews; extended family; and many friends.

John was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War and retired as Captain from Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in West Liberty.  An avid sports fan, John especially enjoyed attending football and baseball games with his son.  He also enjoyed being outdoors and enjoying nature in general. He loved his family fiercely—including his dogs—and was always kind, gentle, compassionate, and funny. John prayed every day and had a strong faith.  He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by family and friends.    

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Carlos Bowman officiating.  Burial will follow in the Baldridge Rigsby Buckner Cemetery in Clearfield with full military honors presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. 

Pallbearers will be Kenny Johnson, Wayne Logan, Justin Napier, Timmy Goodan, Trey Morris, and Jeff Callihan. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 16, 2019, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
