Jewel Lee Phillips Ferguson

Jewel Lee Phillips Ferguson, age 96, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead after a brief illness.

Born October 8, 1922, in Morgan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Joseph N. Phillips and Sarah A. Gregory Phillips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 7 sisters and 4 brothers, Eulah, Eva, Bill, Alta, Esta, Delma, Edna, Jesse, Geneva, Willard and Drew; 2 granddaughters, Stephanie D. Dearth and Jody A. Price, and the love of her life, Andy Williams, who passed away in January 1961.

Jewel is survived by her devoted children, Lavodis A. Jones of Connersville, Indiana, Mona F. Matthews of Morehead, Kentucky, Yvonne R. Mercer of Springfield, Ohio, Shirley Ramey and Judy Jones of Farmers, Kentucky, and one son, Ronnie J. Williams (Irene) of Morehead, Kentucky.

Other survivors include 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Jewel was a loving, compassionate mother and grandmother who especially enjoyed grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. She was an avid quilter and gardener. Her yard was a showplace each spring and summer. Every child and grandchild received a handmade quilt from her. She owned and operated Ferguson's Boarding Home where she provided care for the elderly and disabled from 1974-1994 at which time her daughter and son-in-law took over the business. She continued to work alongside them only retiring when she was in her 80's.

Special thanks from the entire family goes to her daughter, Mona, who has been by her side continually for the last 6 years as her caregiver. She has been her rock and saw to it that she never wanted for anything.


Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Robert Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Grandsons: George Adams, Jim burrows, Greg Jones, Jr., Matthew Williams, Derek Jones, Tyler Wallace, Lucas Burrows and Tony Wallace.

Honorary Pallbearers: Cameron Williams, Joshua Gadberry, Cory Conley, Bill Day, Jace Watkins, Chase Day, Carson Day, Stevie Ridenour, Zack Hill, and Brandon Carey.

Visitation for Jewel Ferguson is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
