Elan Virginia Karrick Wheeler, age 97, of Old Flemingsburg Road, Morehead, widow of Dr. Milburn Richard Wheeler, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019, at her home surrounded by loving family.
She was born April 25, 1922, in Salt Lick, a daughter of James Thomas Karrick and Mary Warner Karrick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by all her siblings: Ethel Mae, Louticia, Paul Casner, Travis Warner, Joe Bennett, Hugh, William Owen, Thelma Gertrude, Reginald Gayhart, Edsel Leland, and Christine.
On August 10, 1946, Virginia was united in marriage to Dr. Milburn Richard Wheeler, a well-known and respected dentist in Morehead from 1951 until his retirement in 1996. He passed away February 13, 2013.
Virginia received her bachelor’s degree from Morehead State Teachers College and truly enjoyed teaching in Louisville and Salt Lick. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and community leader. She managed her husband’s dental office, kept abreast of current events, and was very involved in Republican political issues. Virginia was an extremely generous and caring person and without seeking recognition willingly gave to those in need. She loved the Lord and was an active member of the Morehead United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Wheeler is survived by one son, Reginald Kenneth (Teresa) Wheeler of Morehead; four grandchildren, Danny (Shana) McGraw, Angie (Scott) Wheeler-Howard, Billy (Heather) Wheeler and Adam Wheeler; and five great-grandchildren, Bryce Keeton, Natalie McGraw, Kyndra Howard, Allyson Wheeler, and Lucas Wheeler.
Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews; extended family; special friends and caregivers Ruth and LaHoma; and many who enriched her life during her journey. St. Claire Palliative Care, Hospice, and Home Medicine were greatly appreciated for their sensitivity and professionalism.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. J. D. Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Scott Howard, Billy Wheeler, Danny McGraw, Adam Wheeler, Bryce Keeton and Danny Barker.
Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
