Born May 17, 1957, in Richmond, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Gillion and Nannie Mae Northern Alexander.

Delbert is survived by his wife of 41 years, Connie Lynn Davis Alexander, whom he married July 1, 1978; one daughter, Julie Louise Alexander Lewis and Larry of West Liberty; one son, Joshua Lee Alexander and Jaclyn Giddens of Wesley Chapel, Florida; and three grandchildren, Grace Lynn Lewis, Hunter Dale Lewis, and Jackson Lee Alexander.

Delbert graduated in 1975 from Stivers High School in Dayton, Ohio, and soon thereafter enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard where he was a medic and supply sergeant.  In 1982, he transferred to active duty with the U.S. Air Force and served in the Gulf War through Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.  As an MP, one of his duties was to guard General Schwarzkopf at the command post in Saudi Arabia.  He was honorably discharged in June 1992.

After the military, Delbert established his own business, C & D Painting, in Destin, Florida, which he operated for the next 15 years.   In 2010, he moved to Kentucky and became a correctional officer at Blackburn Correctional Complex in Lexington.  In 2014, he left the facility to become a licensed insurance agent with Transamerica Life, where he was currently working out of the Morehead Office.

He was a devoted sports fan and especially enjoyed Florida State University football, the Cincinnati Reds and the Bengals.

Delbert was of the Pentecostal faith and was an active member of the Assembly of God organization.  He served as associate pastor, youth pastor, and Sunday School teacher for a number of years at Damascus Assembly of God in Freeport, Florida, and had been a Deacon and Royal Ranger Leader at Destin Assembly of God.  He was a very loving husband, father, and Paw Paw who will be greatly missed and forever loved.
