Debra Carol DeHart Skaggs, age 65, a resident of Welaka, Florida, passed away from cancer on Monday, October 14, 2019, at Haven – Roberts Care Center in Palatka, Florida.
Born on May 13, 1954, in Morehead, Kentucky, Debra was the daughter of the late Lloyd Ellis DeHart and the late Beulah Mae Butler DeHart. She and her husband Frank met as children and were married for 49 years. She worked at the General Motors Willow Run Assembly and Lake Orion plants in Michigan before transferring to Saturn Corporation in Spring Hill, Tennessee, in 1993 and retiring with 25 years of service in 2005.
Debra enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, had a wonderful sense of humor, and adored her beloved pets. She was a caring, generous and loving woman who graced us with her kindness. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Skaggs of Welaka, Florida; son, Frankie (Kathy Olson) Skaggs of Plymouth, Michigan; grandson, Barry James Skaggs of Belleville, Michigan; great granddaughter, Sadie Marie Skaggs.
Also survived by brother, Jimmy DeHart of Olive Hill; two sisters, Sharon (George) Morrison of Morehead and Rhonda (Wayne) Pffankutchen of Haldeman; special nephews, Brent and Jamie DeHart; nieces, Sarah Walling and Rebecca Skaggs, all of Morehead; special cousin, Dawn Baird of Danville, Indiana; brother and sisters-in-law Donnie (Paula) Skaggs, Carolyn Sturgill, and Connie Lowe, all of Rowan County.
She was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Jennifer Skaggs.
The immediate family would like to extend a special thanks to Connie Pinder, Haven Hospice and cancer specialist, Dr. Trika, and a special nurse, Teresa for their special care and compassion for Debra.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2019, Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Joey Damron presiding. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be: Brent DeHart, Jamie DeHart, Wayne Pffankutchen, George Morrison, Kevin Sturgill and Billy Williams. Honorary pallbearers: Donnie Skaggs, Sarah Walling, Rebecca Skaggs and members of UAW Local 1853.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to a Cancer Society of one’s choice.
