Bette LaRue North

Bette LaRue North, age 79, of Morehead, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019, at the Irvine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Irvine, Kentucky.

She was born April 30, 1940, in Auxier, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Foley North and Gladys Daniel North.

Ms. North is survived by two sisters, Sandra Webb of Morehead and Jeri Robin North of Belleville, Michigan, and three brothers, Gary North of Knoxville, Tennessee, Foley Michael North and Scott North, both of Morehead.

Bette graduated from Morehead State with a B.S. degree in three years. She also received master's degrees from Morehead State University and Southeast Missouri State University.

She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Mouth of Rush, Kentucky. She then taught at Mead Memorial High School in Johnson County before returning to MSU to pursue her master's degree. While there, she was Dormitory Director for West Mignon Hall before moving to Missouri.

For over forty years Bette taught in the Perryville Missouri school system. She taught generations of students while serving as Assistant Athletic Director, Social Studies Chairperson and sponsor of the National Honor Society. She was also an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, the Perryville Historical Society and the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, crafting and learning.

Bette will be remembered by her family, friends, and countless students for her wit, compassion and helping spirit. She will continue to live in the deeds and kindnesses she performed.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. A graveside service will follow at Brown Cemetery at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Joe Damron officiating.
