Anne Preston Thigpen Beane

Anne Preston Thigpen Beane, 83, of Morehead, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died late Monday night, March 4, 2019, at home in the comfort of her family.

She was born May 30, 1935, to William Green Thigpen and Eugenia Speer Thigpen in St. Petersburg, FL.

She is survived by her husband, James Ross Beane; her daughters, Cathy Johanson, Cheryl Jaksa, and Stacey Beane; their husbands, Carl Johanson and Robert Jaksa; her grandchildren, Caroline Pettinato, Matthew Johanson, Ross McGoodwin, Hannah McGoodwin, Kyle Jaksa, and Griffin Jaksa; and her great grandchildren, Francis Pettinato, Felix Pettinato, and Holly Pettinato.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Green Thigpen and Eugenia Speer Thigpen; her sister, Nancy Louise Thigpen; and her granddaughter, Laura Katherine Johanson.

Anne went to Stetson University in Florida where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree and met her husband of 62 years, James Ross Beane. Their senior year both were recognized as gifted musicians when Anne was picked as the senior soloist and James the senior conductor for their graduating class. She received a Master of Music degree from Morehead State University, where she taught voice and music theory from 1972 until she retired in 1995 and became Professor Emeritus of Music.

She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, The National Association of Teachers of Singing and Pi Kappa Lambda.

Throughout her life Anne shared her gift of music, performing in concerts at Baird Music Hall, church, and as a member of Lexington Singers. Anne was a member of Lexington Singers from 1976 until 1997 and was a section leader as well as a soloist in many of their performances, with James Ross Beane conducting.

Although her love of family and music dominated her time, she also enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, and sewing and was always ready to help a neighbor, friend, or student. Anne was loved by all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.

A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Drew McNeill officiating. Interment will follow in Lee Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2019, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
