Shirley Ann Stevens Wells, 87, of Morehead, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 24, 2024, at Ridgeway Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owingsville.
She was born January 18, 1937, in Morehead and was the daughter of late Albert and Nellie (Pelfrey) Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald “Don” Haroldon Wells, Sr. in 1968; one son, Donald Haroldon “Fuzz” Wells, Jr. in 2023; two brothers, Donald Lee Stevens and David Albert Stevens, and three sisters, Thelma Jean Skaggs, Rena Bell Clark, and Marcelean Gosper.
Shirley is survived by one daughter, Donna Deirdre “Dede” Kidwell of Morehead; two grandsons, Eric Wescott of Lexington and Cody Kidwell and wife Kristy of Frenchburg; a very special great grandson, whom she adored, Lukus Kidwell of Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.
Many will remember Shirley and her sister Rena as co-owners of Stevens Grocery on U.S. 60 East in Morehead. You couldn’t count the number of hotdogs and pounds of lunch meat that they served over the years.
Shirley was of the Christian faith and was ready to go see her husband, son, and other loved ones and friends. She was the last of her siblings left and would often say she was grateful to be alive, but it was hard to watch everyone you love die. Shirley’s greatest love was spending time with family and especially with her great grandson. She will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers: Eric Wescott, Cody Kidwell, Scottie Hubbard, Brian Stevens, David Stevens, and Kristy Kidwell.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
