Laverne Brown, Sr., age 79, of Whispering Pines, Clearfield, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 14, 1944, in Rowan County, and was a son of the late Opal Brown and Eva Pearl Wallace Brown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Menzil Brown and one sister, Pauline Perkins.
Laverne is survived by four children, Eva Gamble and husband Mike of Winchester, Laverne Brown, Jr. and wife Betty, Jerry Brown, and Paula McCoy, all of Clearfield; two brothers, Larry Brown and Virgil Brown, both of Morehead; three grandchildren, Desiree Meadows, John McCoy, and Joshua Brown; one great grandson, Luke McCoy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a retired truck driver for Consolidated Freight Ways and was a member of the Teamsters Union. Laverne loved guns, fishing, watching Westerns, hunting, and listening to Bluegrass music. He was a member of NRA and an avid supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Laverne will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Brown Cemetery with Brother Luther Thomack officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
At his request, there will be no visitation.
