Helen Barnett Obituary

It is with immense love that we celebrate the passing of Helen Jean Curtis Barnett, a devoted servant of Christ, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was called to her eternal home on February 4, 2024, at the age of 96. Helen's remarkable journey began on January 4, 1928, born to Ray and Isabel Curtis, and grew to touch the hearts and lives of all who knew her.

She was preceded in her journey to the Lord by her beloved husband, Myron Barnett, and two adored daughters, Virginia McQuitty and Brenda Eldridge. Helen's legacy of love and devotion lives on through her sons, David Barnett (Sharon) of Flemingsburg, KY, and Jim Barnett (Carol) of St. Louis. Her love further blossoms in the lives of her 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and the anticipated joy of a great-great-grandchild due late summer 2024.

Helen was the heart of a large, loving family, including her six siblings: Carroll Curtis and wife Faye of Frankfort; Wendell Curtis of Paris; Larry Curtis of Paris, widower of Naomi; Barbara Ann Brumagen of Piqua, widow of James; Marilyn Beall of Lexington, widow of Charles; and her deceased brother, Ronald Curtis and his wife Ruth.

A proud alumna of Deming High School, Kentucky Christian College, and Morehead State University, where she earned an Educational Specialist (EdS) degree, Helen dedicated her life to the noble calling of education. She served with distinction as a teacher and librarian in the Fleming County Schools, nurtured young minds in the early years of the federal Head Start program, and, following retirement, contributed as a dorm mother and librarian at Kentucky Christian University and as a teacher at the Secrest Crossing Christian School.

Helen's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. A lifelong member of the Piqua Christian Church, she also served and worshiped at Grange City, Hillsboro, and Elizaville Christian Churches and, more recently, at the New Creation Praise and Worship Center. Her faith was as vibrant and nurturing as the flowers she tended in her garden, a testament to her love for beauty and her Creator.

Known for her splendid cooking, Helen's home was a beacon of warmth and hospitality, embodying the spirit of community and generosity. She lived her faith, and to those who had the pleasure of knowing her, she was a living testament to the love and grace of Jesus Christ. Helen would want each of us to know that Jesus loves us, died for us, and desires to be our Savior. She leaves us with a question of eternal significance, "Are you ready?"

Helen’s departure from this world leaves a void that cannot be filled; but, her spirit, teachings and love for Jesus Christ remain with us. As we say “we will see you in a little while” to this extraordinary woman, we also rejoice in knowing that she has found her everlasting peace and joy in the arms of her Savior.

"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." - Proverbs 31:28
