Donnie Hugh Stewart

Donnie Hugh Stewart, age 80, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Born September 9, 1943, at Haldeman in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Missouri “Jerri” White Stewart Royse and Orville Stewart and stepson of Oval E. Royse.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Orville Leston Stewart. 

Donnie is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Carole Perry Stewart; one son, Alan Stewart and wife Christina of Butte, Montana; one sister, Ovella Jessee and husband Ken of Huntsville, Alabama, as well as his faithful fur babies, rescue dogs, Max and Ellie. 

Donnie earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Morehead State University in 1969, proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1969, and diligently worked as an educator for many years, retiring as a teacher in North Carolina.   

A gifted athlete, he loved sports and won the world state championship in baseball; no one can break that record. Through the years, he enthusiastically tackled challenges wherever he was and always rose to the occasion.  He will be remembered for his generosity, patience, wisdom, and courage--many traits he learned as a child.  

Donnie became a Christian when he was nine years old.   He and Carole were loyal members of the Morehead First Church of God.

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Alan Hutchinson officiating.  Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military honors conducted by Morehead American Legion Post 126.

Pallbearers:  Damon Caskey, Hayden Pratt, Hudson Pratt, Alan Stewart, John Northcutt.  Honorary Pallbearers:  Tony Netherly, Chuck Netherly, Sonny Caskey.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.  Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
