Cynthia "Cindi" Lynn (Deaton) Johnson

Cynthia Lynn “Cindi” Deaton Johnson, age 56, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away at her home on Monday, February 19, 2024.

She was born May 31, 1967, in Lexington, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Alex G. Deaton and Pauline Brandenburg Deaton. 

Cindi is survived by her devoted husband, Jeffrey Johnson, whom she married August 8, 1987.  Other family members to cherish her memory include two brothers, Rick Gerald Deaton and Tabitha of Lexington and Gregory Alan Deaton and wife Kim of Orlando, Florida, as well as an aunt and two uncles, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends, colleagues, and students.   

Mrs. Johnson earned her Master’s degree from the University of Kentucky and began her career in education at Anderson County High School in 1985.  Over the years, she touched countless lives as a librarian at Morgan County Middle School and as a teacher/librarian at Tilden Hogge Elementary, Clearfield Elementary, and Rodburn Elementary.  After 27 years of dedicated service in a profession that she loved, Cindi retired from the Rowan County Board of Education in July 2022. 

In addition to her accomplishments as an educator, Cindy was a devoted wife and valued friend.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed her “swimming pool family.”  She also enjoyed gardening, reading, and staying in touch with former students and colleagues. 

Cindi was a member of Johnson First Church of God.  She will be greatly missed and remembered with love.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2024, followed by a celebration of life to begin at 1 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ben Furman and Rev. Ben Hargis officiating. The service will be live streamed at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Facebook page beginning at 1:00 p.m.

(Interment will be at 4:30 p.m., March 16, 2024, at New Alfrey Cemetery.)
