Obituary for Nick Pecco

Nick "Poppy" Pecco, age 71, of Morehead, KY, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center surrounded by his beloved family. Nick was born on August 14, 1946, in Belfry, KY, to parents Buster and Mary Jane Ball Pecco.

Nick enjoyed being outside and was an entrepreneur by nature. He spent most of his life farming, trading cattle, operating a successful greenhouse business for the past 23 years (including the famous cucumber hanging basket), and supplying Pecco's Goody Barn with numerous fruits, vegetables and flowers. In his earlier years he ran a successful coal mining operation in Lawrence County, KY. Even at the age of 71, it was an everyday event to watch him chase cows in a field, work tirelessly with plants and flowers and live life to the fullest. His love for nature and people was unbounded.

Nick was a Christian and attended Johnson First Church of God regularly. Nick loved life but, he especially loved people. His legacy was not in his work but, in his selflessness. Although he enjoyed chasing cattle, he found true joy in his ability to help others. He spent many hours gathering and transporting goods to the Community Soup Kitchen and was always the first one to lend a helping hand. Words could never fully describe the impact his life had on his community, friends, and family. Nick never met a stranger and was held in high regard by all who knew him. If Nick wasn't helping others, he was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. A day never went by that Poppy didn't spend time with his grandbabies. Whether it was watching westerns, feeding animals or having a family meal, Poppy always had time for family.

Nick is survived by his wife of 43 years, Anna Egan Pecco; two sons, Nathan Pecco and wife Autumn of Morehead, KY, Nicholas Pecco and wife Jennifer of Morehead, KY, and one daughter, Mary Beth Cummins and husband Kevin of Wallingford, KY. Also surviving are his beloved 7 grandchildren, Gianna Elizabeth Pecco, Samantha Lynne Pecco, Jaxson Thomas Pecco, Nathaniel Craig Pecco, Oliver Christian Cummins, Mia Jane Pecco, and Nicholas Andrew Pecco.

He is also survived by two brothers, Tony Pecco and wife Lula of Morehead, KY, and Tom Pecco of Morehead, KY; three sisters, Ilene Tackett and husband Forest of Morehead, Mary Ann Debord and husband William of Shelbyville, KY, and Elizabeth Pecco Justice of Morehead, KY; special nieces Angela Tackett, Sarah Purdy, and Jessica Purdy, all of Morehead and dear friend, Kenton Wheeler. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as a loving church family.

Nick was preceded in death by his father, Buster Pecco in 2007; his mother, Mary Jane Pecco in 1994; and brother-in-law, Jerry R. Justice in 1997.

Services will be held at Johnson First Church of God, 590 Cranston Rd, Morehead, KY 40351 with visitation from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, and a Celebration of Life service on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Ben Furman and the Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating.
