Obituary for Dr. Carroll Russell Loy, Jr.

Dr. Carroll Russell Loy, Jr., devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, age 65, of Chestnut Lane, Morehead, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his family after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.

Born April 21, 1953, in Louisville, he is the son of Jean James Loy of Louisville and the late Carroll Russell Loy, Sr.

He is also survived by his wife of 46 years, Leslie Willis Loy; five children, Dr. Alice Loy Bonnell (Mark) of Toledo, Ohio, Aubrey Lyn Shields (Ben) of Mt. Sterling, Carroll Russell Loy III (Thu-Ha) of Windermere, Florida, Christian Tyler Loy (Karlye) of Paducah, and Clayton Willis Loy (Megan) of Morehead; 13 grandchildren, Mackenzie, Cameron, Ansley, Hayden, Ana, Campbell, Ella, Adelynn, Jonsi, Hadley, Hudson, Ava, and Madilyn; and two brothers, Wesley S. Loy (Benita) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Dr. Bryan A. Loy (Peggy) of Louisville.

Dr. Loy graduated from Tates Creek High School in 1971. It was here that his relationship with the love of his life, Leslie, began and flourished. Carroll and Leslie were married on September 17, 1971, at Centenary Methodist Church in Lexington, Kentucky. They started their family in Lexington and in 1978 relocated to Morehead, which became their home.

Dr. Loy attended the University of Kentucky, before earning a bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University in 1981. In 1993, he graduated from the University of Louisville earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree. After obtaining his D.M.D., Dr. Loy began his career at Tingle and Loy Dentistry where he practiced for 25 years.

Dr. Loy, a man of devout faith, deepened his conviction through acts of service. Carroll was a volunteer coach for local youth and church sports leagues. He generously volunteered dental services to patients at the Morehead Inspiration Center and The People’s Clinic, which ultimately earned him the honor of becoming a Kentucky Colonel. Dr. Loy selflessly participated in international mission trips where he provided healthcare to those in third-world countries. Carroll was a steadfast and involved member of the Morehead United Methodist Church for nearly 40 years.

Carroll enjoyed spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and cherished being with them. As an avid University of Kentucky sports fan, he loved cheering for the Wildcats. When the opportunity presented itself, he enjoyed traveling to the ocean with his wife and family. His hobbies included playing euchre, reading, gardening, and smoking cigars.

Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Morehead United Methodist Church with the Rev. Aaron Mansfield officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers: Carroll R. Loy III, Tyler Loy, Clayton Loy, Mark Bonnell, Ben Shields, Wesley Loy, Bryan Loy, and Howard Goldberg.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Morehead United Methodist Church, 227 West Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351.
