Brode Cornett, 84, of Morehead, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at his Northfork home, surrounded by loving friends and family members.

Born April 30, 1933, in Knott County, Kentucky, Brode was the son of the late “Banjo” Bill Cornett and Malissa Combs Cornett of Hindman, Kentucky. Besides his parents, Brode was preceded in death by three brothers, Coney, Scott, and Bill Junior; six sisters, Mildred Risner, Lola Faye Jones, Lake Cooper, Grace Amburgey, Lenore Cornett, Mabel Smith; and one infant sibling. Brode's beloved wife of nearly 61 years, Jeanetta Smith Cornett, preceded him in death on December 8, 2016.

Brode is survived by one brother, Bernie Cornett (JoAnn) of Lexington, Kentucky and Madge Mayo of Lexington, Kentucky; three sons, Gary, William, and Chad (Dannis), and two daughters, Deborah Howes (Fred) and Malissa Delgado (Lencho); ten grandchildren, Jason Guillozet (Jennifer), Jessica Cornett Dudon (Tim), Gary Cornett Jr., Rachael Cornett, Nicole Scott (Adam), Amanda Mason (Sam), William Cornett, Wessley Cornett, Joshua Reynolds, and Zoa Reynolds; four grandchildren of the heart, Johnny, Manuel, Steven, and Lorenzo Delgado; nine great grandchildren, Tevan Guillozet, Makayla Guillozet, Ross Sparks, Hannah Sparks, Ray Sparks, Nina Scott, Landrick Mason, Milyn Mason and Chloe Jeanetta Hamm, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and an abundance of friends. He found great joy and happiness in the last 18 months of his life with his newfound friends and adopted family at Northfork Senior Living. He also considered the wonderful community of caregivers at St. Claire Oncology as part of his extended family.

Brode was a Morehead State University graduate and retired educator. He taught Industrial Arts in Hindman, Kentucky, and Arcanum, Ohio. Brode was an outstanding educator and received many accolades for his teaching including Ohio Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year. Although retired for over twenty-five years, his students have continued to call, visit, and write to him throughout the years.

During his many years in Arcanum, Ohio, Brode was a long-time member of the City Council and Zoning Committee. He was also active in the Lions Club and received an international award for his service to the community.

Brode served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was extremely proud to have defended his country in the Signal Corps. He loved his military brothers and sisters and was a steadfast patriot.

As an avid old-time outdoorsman, Brode enjoyed hunting deer, turkey, rabbit and squirrel. He also enjoyed turtle hunting and frog gigging. In the spring of the year, he gathered the wild morels, which he shared with his many friends as well as his caregivers at St. Claire Regional Medical Center and Morehead Medical Specialists.

Brode was an extremely charismatic personality. He was highly social and very energetic. His daring, competitiveness, and intensity never waned throughout his life. For him, there was always a project, a purpose, an activity. He was a man in motion who loved his family, his friends, his country, the great outdoors, and the next great adventure.
