He passionately loved this community and was a fixture of Morehead and Rowan County. Sandy will indeed be missed greatly. Sandy Knipp was one of the brightest, most talented and gifted individuals who made so many friends from all walks of life. What a terrific legacy he has left for all of us touched by his passion for living life to the fullest.

Sandy had a great sence of humor. He always could make me laugh!! He had a great knowledge of music and helped other people. It seemed as though he could always find the GOOD in everyone. I will miss him!!!!!

Sandy was a good friend and colleague at Morehead State Public Radio. His love of music of all kinds and dedication to education was evident in everything he did. He took pride in the success of young people and he helped many along the way. Thanks for so many years of friendship and your time with us at WMKY.

As we all know, Sandy was so special. In spite of his many health problems he was always THERE, whatever the reason or cause. lovely person and terrific cousin. Will certainly miss you, especially on Saturday @ 11:00am. Love to all my cousins.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Sandy. We know his physical suffering is relieved, but he will be missed so deeply by so many loving family members and friends. He was such an amazingly accomplished person and yet our best memory is of his caring and inclusive nature.

Mr. Knipp was my principal and teacher at Haldeman Elementary. He was a great teacher, one that inspired me to go into education. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.

We were very, very saddened to hear of Sandy's entrance to the presence of God. We listened to his entire show most every Saturday and enjoyed listening to him almost as much as we did the music. Dearest Knipp and Hansen family, Sandy was a dear sweet, compassionate man with an amazing gift for music! I am so grateful to have known him. So sorry for your loss, I will miss him and his patience with me trying to learn new songs. I had a few lessons with Sandy before he started feeling bad again. We were trying to work out a schedule but it was not to be. I loved his radio show, sometimes I would call in a request and he would usually say something nice to or about me.

So sorry for the loss of a terrific person. Sandy was one of my favorite cousins and such an inspiration to everyone that knew him. His suffering is finally over, but he will be missed by many.

I remember going to Sandy's with dad and listening to sandy play guitar and sing in his music room. Such a talented soul.

You found your peace and left the troubles of this world behind.You went to a better place that only Your Savior could provide.You saw the gates of pearl and they opened wide to welcome one of God's finest son's to come and live with Him.Your memories you have left us in so many special ways.Through teaching and singing and making friends every where.They always say if you want friends you have to show yourself friendly.Boy did you ever do that. As you walk the street of gold and see the crystal river flow,as you talk with Jesus you can look Him in the eye.There will be angels singing as you walk by His side,to see all the beauties that the natural eye can't see. I remember Sandy's beautiful playing in the show Cotton Patch Gospel about 10 years ago. I will be thinking about all his family and friends in Morehead and elsewhere.

My heart breaks for your family for the loss of Sandy... he was Stefani's 5th grade teacher, and a good friend to both of us. She always said he was her favorite teacher. I'll never forget the field trip that he, Sue Messer and I took the kids on to Sugar Creek Ohio...I think about it everytime I see a giant hunk of chocolate...Rest in Peace Sandy

Mr. Knipp was my principal and 5th grade teacher – and he was and he was amazing at many things! I have so many absolutely great memories of Mr. Knipp in some of his many roles that he is Musician, Principal, Teacher, Storyteller, Friend, and Parent... A very large influence in my life and is missed. I am so sorry for your / our loss.

My parents went to church with his parents and once a month for many years we would have dinner at his families house after church services. Mr Knipp was a friend of my family and myself. I remember listing to Sandy and my father play bluegrass music in basement of our home back in the late 70s. He was a talented and wise man.

I am currently living in southern Thailand at Nakhon Si Thammarat, but I lived in Morehead, KY from 1983 to 2010 and knew Sandy since I was five years old when I visited my grandparents on their farm on Knipp Holler Road. I was a big fan of his Bluegrass Diversion show as well and he and my brothers used to jam on guitars. I will miss him

Mr. Knipp holds the place In my memories as best teacher I ever had. My favorite memories of his 5th grade Haldeman class was when we would get restless and he would pull out his guitar and we would all sing "In the Big Rock Candy Mt". I listened to Sandy on the Bluegrass Diversion almost every Sat. I also met him at some of the festivals over the years. He was a very gifted individual but he was also a very nice individual. There is just not enough words for me to express how highly I think of Sandy Knipp. He was my 6th grade teacher at Haldeman Elementary. During that short period of time, he gave me the confidence to believe in myself and my future. He was my inspiration when I started and completed college. When I moved away from Kentucky, he continued to ask about me when he saw my parents. I'm am so grateful for the encouragement he gave me as a kid and for the inspiration he's given me as an adult. I will forever be indebted to him and I'm so thankful that was given the opportunity to know him. He will be greatly missed in this world.

My deepest wishes that God comforts you all. Heaven has gained such a wonderful man.

He was always there to help in anyway he could. I loved talking to Sandy when we would meet up and he was always a very happy person. Farewell, Friend

Our prayers have been with the Knipp family today. Four generations of Picazos and Overstreets lived on Knipp Holler and knew and loved Sandy. Sandy was an amazing influence upon my children when he taught them at Haldeman, the same school where Sandy & I had attended together as children. Debbie, I found out through a Face Book post (by Reva Jo Hammond Suter) about the passing of your husband. I am so sorry for your loss. I don’t think that I have seen you since our Band days at the Burg, but I still was shocked and grieved to hear this sad news.
